Hello Poole!
It's a big week for the area, with a packed programme of events running right through the weekend. Country music takes over not one but three venues across Poole this weekend, there's a massive community day in Broadstone, fireworks are returning to the Quay this summer and Upton Country Park has another huge weekend lined up. We've also got news of a new skate park planned for Baiter Park, an exciting expansion from a local charity that needs your help, and a Poole primary school that's just been recognised as a national leader in SEND inclusion.
All the details below, enjoy!

🛹 Plans submitted for a brand new Baiter skate park
Plans have been submitted to replace the ageing skate park at Baiter with a modern new facility designed by local riders, for local riders.
The existing steel ramps have become increasingly worn over the years, but under the proposals they would be replaced with a bespoke skate park built from smooth sprayed concrete with galvanised steel edging.
The new design promises a quieter, safer and more durable facility while keeping the same overall skateable area as the current park.

As well as the main skate area, the project includes refreshed tarmac surfaces for wheeled sports, new seating areas, cycle parking, bins and additional landscaping including wildflower planting and new trees to provide shade.
The skate park sits in one of Poole's most popular outdoor spaces and has long been in need of investment. With a budget of £400,000, the project would represent one of the biggest investments in outdoor youth facilities in Poole.
📋 You've spoken: what Poole residents want from the new Local Plan
Last fortnight we reported that BCP Council had launched a new Local Plan, a 15-year blueprint for the area that they're under pressure to complete within 30 months. We asked PooleNow readers what the key priority should be, and we had a huge response.
The verdict was clear: regenerating the town centre and high street, chosen by more than half of all respondents. The comments reflected a town with real ambition for what it could become. Readers spoke of attracting independent businesses, creating vibrant spaces for markets and live music, and restoring pride in a town centre that has so much going for it, not least its gateway to Poole Quay. One reader captured the mood well: "Making rents and business rates affordable so that small, independent businesses can thrive, making it a town that supports artisan and boutique independents."
Affordable housing came second (16%), with many readers keen to see young people able to stay and put down roots in the area. Transport was third (11%), with calls for a joined-up plan that meets the needs of modern life.
The first part of the consultation closes on Monday 27 July. Find out more and take part here.

🛒 Poole charity appeals for help with major expansion plans
Poole Waste Not Want Not is embarking on an ambitious expansion project that will allow it to provide even more support to local people experiencing financial hardship.
The charity hopes to create a welcoming space where residents can access affordable food, essential household items, practical skills training and social support, helping people build confidence and independence while reducing food insecurity and isolation.
To make the project a reality, the team is appealing to local businesses and organisations for help with everything from decorating and shelving to kitchen equipment, flooring and professional services.
They are particularly keen to hear from businesses that may be refurbishing, relocating or closing premises and have furniture, fittings or equipment that could be given a second life in the new space.
Volunteers are also needed to help move stock, organise storage areas and get the new premises ready to open.
Poole Waste Not Want Not already provides invaluable support for individuals and families across our area and this expansion has the potential to make an even bigger difference.
If you or your business can help in any way, the team would love to hear from you.
🌴 New beach club set to open on Bournemouth seafront
Bournemouth is getting a brand new beach club this summer, and it looks like a good one.
Seventa Events has been awarded the contract to operate the West Cliff Beach Bar at Bournemouth seafront, launching their Palm Beach Club concept on the site in front of the former WestBeach Restaurant. Think bookable sun loungers, dining pods, food and drinks, weekend DJs and sunset cocktails in a relaxed coastal setting. The club opens from mid-July through to September, with Seventa investing more than £100,000 in the venue and creating around 35 seasonal jobs. Construction started yesterday, 29 June.
It's a Bournemouth venue, but worth knowing about if you're heading along the coast for the Friday night fireworks this summer. More details and priority booking at palmbournemouth.co.uk.

🛝 More play park improvements coming to Poole
The upgrades to Poole's play areas are continuing, with fresh plans now unveiled for a major refurbishment of Bourne Valley play park.
Inspired by the local environment and the area's population of Large Red Damselflies, the new design will feature natural colours, themed sculptures and equipment designed to help children connect with nature.
A fully accessible toddler and inclusive zone will include sensory features, swings, a playhouse and accessible equipment. A transition area will help younger children build confidence before moving on to more challenging activities, while older children will benefit from a large climbing structure, cableway, swings and rope features.
The project has a budget of almost £140,000, with work expected to start in mid-July and finish before the end of August.
Following the fantastic refurbishment of the Pirate Park in Canford Cliffs, it is great to see investment continuing in Poole's play spaces.

🌟 Poole school named national leader for SEND inclusion
Heatherlands Primary School has been selected by the Department for Education as a national co-lead for inclusion bases, which are dedicated spaces within mainstream schools where children with SEND or learning difficulties receive tailored support. It's a remarkable achievement and a real reflection of the work that staff, families and partners have put in over many years.
The DfE praised Heatherlands specifically for its inclusive culture, strong use of data and close collaboration with families and professionals.
As a national co-lead, the school will now share its approach with others across the country, with local practice informing how children with SEND are supported nationwide.
