Looping Back: How Ian Davis is Bringing Vintage Style to Poole

When Ian Davies opened Loope on Kingland Crescent, he wasn’t just setting up another vintage shop—he was creating something bigger. A space that blends sustainable fashion, creativity, and community, all wrapped up in a store that feels like an extension of Ian himself.

Ian and Willis

From London to Poole: The Journey Back

After 25 years living in London, Ian made the decision to return to Poole, the place where he grew up. The move was partly driven by family, (“I met a beautiful woman!”), but also by a realisation: “I had my time in London,” he says. “I know my hometown, and I love it here.” Having run a successful business in the capital, he brought that expertise back with him, setting up a small salon in Poole before wanting to expand into something much bigger.

The Birth of Loope

Loope is more than just a name—it’s a concept that perfectly reflects Ian’s journey. “I was thinking about how life comes full circle,” he explains. “So I took ‘Poole’, made an anagram, and got ‘Loope’. It just made sense.” The shop itself is a carefully curated mix of handpicked vintage apparel, upcycled pieces, and a hair studio tucked away at the back. “It’s all about giving things a new life,” Ian says. “Recycling, upcycling, and making sustainable fashion more accessible.”

Ian’s store is in Kingland Crescent, just outside The Dolphin Centre

Bringing in the Next Generation

One of Ian’s biggest passions is helping young creatives get started, which is why he’s working with students from Bournemouth and Poole College. Loope will be offering a free space upstairs where students can experiment with photography, clothing design, and upcycling. “It’s all about giving them a leg up,” he says. “They’ll be able to design and rework clothes, and I’ll even put their creations on sale in the shop—100% for them, no profit for me.”

But it doesn’t stop there. Ian also plans to run competitions for students, challenging them to create eye-catching window displays and work on special projects. One upcoming idea? A huge record disc display for World Record Day in April. “The students don’t know it yet,” he laughs, “but they’ll be making them!”.

The Vision for Poole

Ian has seen firsthand how much Poole has changed, and he’s optimistic about its future—especially the regeneration of Kingland Crescent. “The landlords here, Legal & General, have been brilliant. They’re bringing in independent businesses, giving us a chance to create something special.”

He believes Poole has the potential to be a thriving creative hub, comparing it to Camden in the ‘70s or The Lanes in Brighton. “It starts small, then all of a sudden, there’s an explosion. Poole can be a destination for shopping, music, food, and creativity.

What’s Next for Loope?

Ian is already thinking about his next steps. “I’ve been getting so many new followers each week, and the feedback has been amazing,” he says. “I’m always changing things up, bringing in new stock, and keeping the shop fresh. And I’ve got a new idea brewing… but I’m not telling anyone yet.”

His biggest goal? To create a space where creativity thrives, where young designers can build their brands and say, ‘We were made in Poole.’ “There’s so much talent here,” he says. “We just need to give people the platform to show it.”

And with Loope, he’s doing exactly that.
